Retirement Resignation Letter

There are two kinds of people in any profession and career; ones that love their jobs and always want to work and the others that don’t like their jobs at all but have to come to work because there is no way around it. It doesn’t matter which group you belong to because it is a fact that at some point, you will have to resign from your job and retire from your profession. In most countries, 60 is considered as the age for retirement and most people avail this opportunity so that they can spend more time with their families and less worry about the work.

Most companies around the world have certain retirement policies which means if you reach a certain age or your performance drops to a certain level after spending many years at your job, you will be asked to retire from your job but it’s not like you will be forced to leave and even if the employers support either decision, it’s totally up to the employees if they feel to retire or not. In either case, once you decide to retire from your job, you need to formally inform your employer about your decision and ask him to accept your retirement resignation letter.

When we talk about a retirement resignation letter, it is considered as the last letter that an employee will write to the employer or management and once he receives his final paycheck and retirement savings, usually there won’t be any further contact with the company after that. This is the reason that when you want to write a retirement resignation letter, you take your time and you make it one of your best letters because your employer and coworkers will remember what you will say about them in the resignation letter.

Dear (Recipient’s name),

I am writing this letter to inform you that I have decided to retire and thus, I am resigning from my job of office manager at this company with 1 month notice period.

I have worked at this company for more than 25 years and I am very proud to say that this company and its employees are like my second home and family to me. I loved what I did here and I wanted to always work at this company but my physical health doesn’t allow me hard work anymore and I also want to spend some time with my family especially my grandchildren.

Even if I am really happy and excited to announce my retirement to my family and share this news with them, I am also very sad at the same time. I can’t believe once this resignation letter is received by you, I won’t be working here anymore and I won’t get to see this company growing.

I want to ask you if you have time so that we can meet outside the office sometime and share a cup of tea or a meal together. I hope you will accept my resignation and inform the HR department so that they can arrange for my last paycheck. Also, inform the payroll department that I want to withdraw my retirement savings from the company account soon after I leave.

Yours faithful,
