Nursing Resignation Letter

Nurse is a medical professional that takes care of patients in hospitals in absence of doctors and other professional medical staff. It is a responsibility of a nurse to keep the patient clean, get him his medicine on proper schedule, help him to in changing clothes and going to bathroom, observing any change in the condition of the patient and preparing medical reports and charts for the doctor when he comes on visit for checkup.

When we talk about nurses and their resignation, you should understand that nurses study in medical school especially for the nursing. This means that a nurse can’t become a doctor so this can’t be the reason for the resignation of a nurse. It is possible that a nurse has found a better job in another hospital that pays more money and now he or she wants to resign from their job and join the other facility. Another possibility for resignation of a nurse is that he or she wants to study further in the medical school for specialization in surgery assistance, dental nursing, optical nursing or some other kind of nursing and they have to first resign from their job in order to concentrate on their studies.

In a hospital or private clinic, nurses work under supervision and administration of head nurse or the administrator of the hospital and they are only answerable to these two employees. This means that when a nurse wants to resign from his job, she has to meet with the head nurse or the hospital administrator and inform them about the situation and if they can agree on mutual terms, it is possible that the nurse decides not to leave but in most cases, the administrator agrees to accept the resignation and he asks the nurse to resign properly with a written resignation letter with a certain notice period that can be 1 week to 1 month depending on each situation. Once the administrator receives the resignation letter, he approves it and informs the HR department so that they can arrange for the substitute for the vacant position and arrange for the final paycheck of the nurse who will leave soon.

Dear (Recipient’s name),

I am resigning from my job at this hospital and as per the procedure, I am sending you formal resignation letter with 2 week notice period.

I want to tell you that I have really enjoyed working here in this hospital and it’s purely my thinking but I think this is the best place that anyone can work in. even if I am really happy working here, I have to think ahead and plan for my career on the long run.

As I told you when I joined this hospital that it’s just a temporary work arrangement and I will leave at some point for further studies in medical school. Last week I got into the medical school for higher studies in the nursing and even if I wanted it badly, it’s not possible for me to study and work at the same time.

I appreciate your supervision and the kind behavior that I experienced at this hospital and I hope to someday come back and work for you once again. Kindly accept my resignation and arrange for my final paycheck.

Yours faithful,
